Senior Network Engineer (Ashburn, Virginia)

Position Summary

This is a senior-level engineering position where the employee will be responsible for providing support for pre- and post- sales efforts. Pre-sales efforts may include bid responses, presentations, demonstrations, or general conversations with customers. Post-sales efforts may include architecting and advanced configuration, operation, and installation of data communications networks. This position will be focused on a primary technology vertical such as Collaboration, Route & Switch, Wireless, Data Center or Servers, and Storage. The individual will also be capable of supporting a second vertical. Field work may include evenings and weekends at remote sites.

Position Responsibilities

An employee in this position is responsible for communicating directly with customers. Work may be performed in our Configurations Center or on‐site at customer facilities. Design and implement secure and manageable Cisco Network infrastructures, providing senior level engineering and operational support in the Cisco technology environment. Design and implement our customer’s CISCO Security, Voice, Wireless, Data Center or Routing/Switching solutions. Troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade, and provide solutions to complex hardware/software problems. Work with customers to determine business requirements and translate them into technology requirements. Conduct Network design review and feasibility study for deployed network elements. Develop test scenarios, define use cases, test requirements, and test plans. Responsible for technical troubleshooting. Facilitate calls between the customers and various teams to resolve any and all issues. Utilize Cisco ACI, VXLAN, VPC, Fabric path, STP, BGP, OSPF.

  • Pre-sales efforts such as bid response, SOW generation, BOM generation, presentations, and demonstrations
  • Create and deliver assessments within technical vertical
  • Architecture and Design of complete solutions within their technical vertical
  • Expert configuration of equipment
  • Install equipment for data communications networks
  • Expert trouble-shooting of equipment for data communications networks
  • Maintain equipment for data communications networks
  • Assist with data gathering, site walk-through, and inventory delivery
  • Escalate issues to manufacturer support or to higher level technical resources
  • Perform advanced administration duties such as the configuration of routers and switches, patch cabling, modifying existing switches, and performing switch upgrades
  • Verify that switches and routers, as well as their configured network services and protocols, operate as intended within a given network specification
  • Exchange information clearly and concisely and present ideas and report facts and other information
  • Project Documentation as needed to include office applications and Visio
  • May coordinate Engineer, Junior Engineer, Technicians, or temporary staff onsite
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Skills / Knowledge

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent and 2 years of experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent and 5 years of experience
  • CCIE Security OR CCIE Collaboration (Voice) preferred; must have written exam and lab exam passed and be a certified CCIE (Security or Collaboration)
  • Will consider other CCIE disciplines (Wireless, Route/Switch, or Service Provider)
  • If candidate does not possess a CCIE certification, willing to look at commensurate work experience plus education credentials
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a part of a team
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to follow directions and pay attention to detail

Physical Requirements

Some standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
